Regional Integration and Enterprise Digital Transformation:Based on Market Competition and Innovation-driven Perspectives
This paper takes the pilot policy of regional integration in the Yangtze River Delta as quasi-natural experiment, and uses the data of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed enter-prises from 2008 to 2021 to investigate the impact and internal mechanism of regional integration policy on enterprise digital transformation. It is found that regional integration policy can signifi-cantly improve the level of enterprise digitalization, and the conclusion is still valid after robust-ness test. From different dimensions, regional integration policies have significantly promoted the depth of digital technology development(underlying digital technology applications)and the breadth of integrated development(smart manufacturing and Internet business models).Mecha-nism test shows that regional integration policy improves market competition environment and inno-vation environment at the macro level, thus enhancing the pressure faced by enterprises to catch up and driving enterprises to adjust their innovation strategies,so as to enhance the digitalization level of enterprises.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the digitalization development effects of re-gional integration policies mainly exist in regions with high levels of state-owned enterprises, growing enterprises, digital finance development and intellectual property protection.Further re-search shows that regional integration policy not only promotes the specialization of enterprises, but also improves the misallocation of enterprise resources. The research conclusions not only provide empirical evidence for solving the dilemma of enterprise digital transformation, but also provide references for the government to further promote the coordinated development of regional integra-tion and build a unified national market.
