Research on the Development Orientation and Capacity-Location Planning of the Pumped Storage in the Typical Southwest Power Grid
Due to the high proportion of renewable energy integration, the risks of insufficient regulation capacity and shortage in both power and electrical energy has become increasingly prominent.Benefited by the advantages such as fast response speed, large regulation capacity and flexible response time, pumped storage has been recognized as a good regulation resource to provide auxiliary services such as peak shaving, frequency regulation and emergency backup. To meet the requirement of regulation capacity of the typical southwest power grid, the development orientation and capacity-location planning of the pumped storage is studied in this paper. The development orientation of pumped storage is analyzed from multiple dimensions, based on the tendency of the typical southwest power grid. Then, the reasonable capacity of pumped storage is evaluated to meet the requirements of the system power support, regulation capacity and safe operation, and the location optimization methods is also proposed. Finally, from the economic perspective, several mechanism suggestions are proposed for the development of pumped storage. The research results can provide valuable reference and guidance for the planning, construction, and long-term development of pumped storage in southwest power grid.
