Advances in 4-Pyrrolin-2-one Synthesis from 3-Aza-1,5-dienes Enabled by Photocatalysis/Electrochemistry
4-Pyrrolin-2-ones,which usually exhibit significantbiological activities, are core structural elements in natural alkaloids and syn-theticpharmaceuticals.Traditionally,4-pyrrolin-2-ones were prepared under harsh conditions including an elevated temperature, and a noble metal catalyst was required.Recently,it has been found that functionalized 4-pyrrolin-2-ones can be synthesized in one step from readily a-vailable 3-aza-1,5-dienes,and that photocatalytic and electrocatalytic methods are particularly green, mild and in line with the concept of green chemistry and with the"two-carbon"goal.This review provides an overview of the advancements in 4-pyrrolin-2-one synthesis from 3-aza-1,5-dienes enabled by photocatalysis or electrochemistry while categorizing the reactions based on reaction types.
