Experimental Study on Reducing Cyanide in Leachate
The highest total cyanide in leachate from landfill site of a hazardous waste treatment center in Yunnan Province was 9.72 mg/L.The pH value is 6.23.In order to make the secondary waste generated by the hazardous waste center can be treated with low cost and high efficiency, the cyanide can be reduced to the national sewage discharge standard GB8578-1996.The process of chemical precipitation was studied. The re-sult shows that, sulfuric acid was added to300 g leachate to adjust the pH value to2-3,then add ferrous sulfate1%(wt%)and polyferric sul-fate 0.33%(wt%),to adjust the pH at 5-6,and add 0.3%(wt%)polyaluminum chloride and a small amount of 0.1%polyacrylamide solu-tion as flocculant. The cyanide in the leachate can be reduced to 0.5 mg/L of cyanide as stipulated in the national sewage discharge standard GB5978-1996.The cyanide removal rate was about 98.48%.
