Research on the Protective Performance of TiO2 Modified Epoxy Magnesium Aluminum Composite Coatings on LY12 Aluminum Alloy
In order to improve the shielding and corrosion resistance of the coatings, the modified epoxy magnesium aluminum composite coatings were prepared on aluminum alloy with adding TiO2 particles. The optimal mass fraction of magnesium and aluminum powders and the mass frac-tion of TiO2 added to the coatings were obtained through thickness testing,Machu testing, corrosion immersion experiments,X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy. The influences of magnesium powders, aluminum powders, and titanium dioxide on the protective performances of epoxy magnesium aluminum composite coatings were studied. The results indicated that the addition of magnesium and aluminum powders in-creases the thickness of the epoxy magnesium aluminum composite coatings significantly, while the TiO2 could slightly increase the thickness of the coatings. The optimal mass fraction of magnesium and aluminum powders in the composite coatings were are 30%and 20%,respectively.Moreover,the optimal mass fraction of TiO2 in the coatings was 3%.The addition of aluminum powders could reduce the activity of magnesium powders in the coatings. On the other hand, the TiO2 could reduce the number of pores, porosity, and defects in the coatings caused by the dis-solution of magnesium powders. Then the destructive effect of severe reaction of magnesium powders on the coatings was inhibited greatly. Thus the protective performances of epoxy magnesium aluminum composite coatings on aluminum alloy were improved significantly.
