Sexual Difference of Quantitative Traits of Anodonta woodiana and the Correlation with Hydrostatic Settling
Methods of morphological quantization and statistics were applied into the related research on biological indicators of morphology and body mass of important trait indicators with the hydrostatic settling velocity in the present study. The research results indicated that the fatness of female A.woodiana was greater than that of males, while the shell weight index was smaller than that of males. The shell width index, ratio of length to height, ratio of width to height of female A.woodiana were higher than those of male A.woodiana, which indicated that mature female A.woodiana had a larger volume than males. The results of path analysis showed that shell width and shell height were the main morphological traits that determine the body mass of female and male mussels, and the posterior end length also played a certain role in determining the body mass of female mussels.Based on the cor-relation analysis between hydrostatic settling velocity and various traits,it was found that hydrostatic settling velocity was significantly positively correlated with the shell weight. When"shell length"was used as a control variable, the hydrostatic settling velocity was significantly correlated with body mass and soft body weight. When"ratio of anterior to posterior"or"ratio of width to height"was used as a control variable, the hydrostatic settling velocity was significantly correlated with soft body weight. Therefore, the shell width and shell height were regarded as the main breeding indicators for A.wood-iana,and the posterior part length can be considered as a secondary breeding indicator for female A.woodiana.
