Evaluating the Stability of Ultra-high Asphalt Core Wall Dams using Sweden Circle Method and Bishop Method
The hundred-meter high asphalt concrete core wall dam in narrow river valley areas faces many design difficulties such as difficult deformation control and easy damage to the anti-seepage body. This article proposes a design scheme suitable for the core wall dam structure and dam shell material based on engineering characteristics. The stability of engineering dam slopes was calculated using Sweden Circle Method and Bishop simplified method using the self developed program STAB2009 by the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences. The results show that the results calculated by the two methods for the dam body are basically equivalent under various working conditions, and the minimum safety factor of the dam slope has a certain safety reserve. It indicates that the dam structure design is reasonable and provides ideas for the design of 150 m level asphalt core wall dams.
