Application of Bidirectional Excavation Construction Technology for Permanent Access Tunnel of Water Diversion Project
The most common excavation method for permanent maintenance access tunnels in water diversion projects is to carry out single head excavation construction of the tunnel after completing the entrance protection engineering at a determined location on the mountain. The construction efficiency is often limited by the weak surrounding rock of the entrance section. In the construction of such tunnels, the excavation of the permanent access tunnel can be arranged after the excavation of the main tunnel, and the method of simultaneous excavation in both directions inside and outside the tunnel can be adopted. It can greatly improve the efficiency of excavation construction, reduce the construction period, and flexibly select stable surrounding rock sections as the connecting surface. The bi-directional excavation construction of permanent maintenance access tunnels is the most effective method to ensure construction safety, quality, and effectiveness simultaneously.
