From Survival Politics to Life Politics:The Transformation of Rural Governance from a Daily-Life Perspective
Representing different stages of development from tradition to modernity the theme of the survival political stage is to meet basic survival,while the theme of the life political stage is to pursue diverse lifestyles and meet the needs of self-realization.By using the concepts of survival politics and life politics to examine the changes of rural China,it is found that the rural villages are in the transition period from survival politics to life politics.From the perspective of daily life,China has maintained a state of survival politics for a long time in the traditional agricultural society and even in the early stages of modern agriculture during the reform and opening up,and itscorresponding governance is also guided by maintaining survival.It was not until China gradually entering the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics that farmers were able to break free from their political state of survival and begin to transition towards a political state of life.Rural governance that shifts towardslife politics should further improve the material living standards of farmers,provide diverse ways of social participation and lifestyle choices,enhance the transformation of the current governance approach from a macro-oriented,material-oriented approach to a micro-oriented and service-orientedhuman-centered approach,cultivating diverse governance entities and providing more choices in values,emotional connectionsand self realization.
