Evaluation of Demulsification Performance of Chitosan Quaternary Ammonium Salt on O/W Emulsion
Using chitosan quaternary ammonium salt as emulsion breaker, the effect of emulsion breaker concentration and treatment temperature on the emulsion breaking effect of oil-in-water(O/W)type emulsion is investigated experimentally using a Turbiscan Lab stability analyzer. The experi-mental results show that the optimum emulsion breaker concentration is around 0.4%(volume fraction)in the treatment temperature range of 25℃~55℃,and the emulsion breaking ability is basically lost af-ter the emulsion breaker concentration exceeds 1.0%.At the operating temperature of 25℃and emul-sion breaker dosing concentration of 0.4%,the measured backscattered light ΔBS curve shows good oil-water delamination, the corresponding TSI curve value reaches the maximum, the oil droplet particle size increases 7 times, and the emulsion breaking process is basically completed within 10 min.In the treatment temperature range from 25℃to 55℃,the emulsion breaking effect improves with the in-creasing temperature, and the best emulsion breaking temperature is 55℃.This study has guiding and reference significance for the selection of demulsification methods for oilfield produced fluids.
