Covering the submarine pipelines with concrete mattresses is a conventional way to protect the submarine pipelines,which is usually completed underwater by divers,with low construction effi-ciency and high construction risk.There are two methods for automatically placing concrete mattresses:the first one is using a working ROV equipped with an underwater high-definition camera,which can transmit underwater images to the work area,the ROV is manipulated to decouple and release the con-crete mattress.The other one is using a hydraulic automatic release lifting frame system equipped with a three-dimensional sonar system,the three-dimensional sonar transmits the underwater structures to the work area in the form of images,and then automatically releases the lifting frame to place the concrete mattress in place by hydraulic driven.The working ROV has a high cost,and is suitable for deep-sea water with clear water quality.The hydraulic automatic release lifting frame system equipped with a three-dimensional sonar is suitable for shallow water with turbid water quality,and it has stable work-ing performance.The method of hydraulic automatic release lifting frame system equipped with three-dimensional sonar can achieve the automatic release of concrete mattresses.It has been successfully ap-plied in the Bohai project,the construction efficiency and placement accuracy have been significantly improved.
