Safety Assessment of Transient Simulation of Liquid Eruption and Overpressure during Pigging
The unstable movement of the pig in undulating terrain pipelines after hydrostatic testing during the pigging process, not only affects the stable operation of the pipeline, but even lead to the bursting accident of pipe in severe cases. This article introduced the four stages of the pig entering the downhill pipe.In the last stage,gas-liquid eruption phenomenon appeared.Combined fluid mass and motion equations, the pig's dynamic equation, and the gas-liquid eruption model,a transient hydraulic model for the pigging process after hydrostatic testing was proposed. This model could simulate the fluid flowing state in the pipeline, and track the pig's movement, and predict the hydraulic pulse value of the pipeline, and conduct a safety assessment. The simulation results were basically consistent with data from two bursting accident of pipe during pigging, which verified the accuracy of the established model. The reliable calculation results provided a reliable and effective theoretical basis for formulating on-site pigging plans, contributing to the safe operation of the pipeline.
