To investigate the effect of confining pressure on the static mechanical properties of naturally soaked red sandstone, triaxial compression tests under confining pressures ranging from 0 to 15 MPa were performed on naturally soaked red sandstone. The test results show that under no confining pressure, the stress-strain curve of naturally soaked red sandstone exhibits a distinct compaction stage. However,as the confining pressure increases, the compaction stage no longer appears in the deviatoric stress-strain curve. All the deviatoric stress-strain curves of the samples exhibit a clear yield platform. The peak deviatoric stress, peak strain, and elastic modulus increase with increasing confining pressure, showing a power function increase relationship with the confining pressure.
