A New Record of Snake Lycodon cathaya in Hunan Province
On July 27,2023,during an amphibian and reptile resource survey in Nanshan National Park,Hunan Prov-ince,a specimen of the genus Lycodon(specimen No.:HNNU 230727,26°15′2″ N,110°15′29″ E;Alt.532 m)was col-lected on the road next to the coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest. The phylogenetic relationship of genus Lycodon was reconstructed by using mitochondrial cytochrome b(Cyt b)gene segments. The results showed that the specimen was clustered with the type specimen of L.cathaya, with a genetic distance of 0.1%.Combining morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic relationship of the Cyt b gene sequence, the specimen was identified to be L.cathaya,belong-ing to genus Lycodon of family Colubridae, and was a new record of snakes in Hunan Province.
