Hynobius maoershanensis is known to be only distributed in the Guangxi Maoershan National Nature Reserve.In March 2022,a specimen of Hynobius was collected in the Quanzhou Tianhu National Wetland Park(26°6′21″ N,110° 54′14″ E;1,680 m),Guilin City,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,which was identified as H.maoershanensis.This is the second new record of distribution after the first records in the Maoershan Nature Reserve in 2006.Phylogenetic analy-sis based on mitochondrial 16S rRNA genes and COI gene show that the collected specimen clustered into monophyly with those from the Maoershan origin,with a genetic distance of 0.5%.The altitude distribution of H.maoershanensis was up-dated from above 1,966 m(previous record)down to 1,680 m above sea level,indicating this species has a broader eco-logical niche.This finding is of great significance for the scientific management and conservation of this species in the fu-ture.
