Cyrtodactylus hekouensis is the Junior Synonym of Cyrtodactylus gulinqingensis
Cyrtodactylus gulinqingensis Liu,Li,Hou,Orlov,and Ananjeva,2021 and C.hekouensis Zhang,Liu,Bern-stein,Wang,and Yuan,2021 were described almost simultaneously,and their type localities were not far from each other.The two species show a strong morphological resemblance,yet no homologous gene sequences were available for com-parison,and it has not been confirmed that they are the same species.To resolve this taxonomic issue,we obtained the sequences of COⅠ gene fragments from the type specimens of these two species.Through phylogenetic analysis,genetic distance calculation,and morphological comparison,it was proved that C.gulinqingensis and C.hekouensis were the same species.We confirmed that C.hekouensis is a junior synonym of C.gulinqingensis because of nomenclature priority.
