Room Temperature Ferromagnetic and Optical Properties of Chromium Doped CdS Nanorods
Cr-doped CdS nanorods with room temperature ferromagnetism were successfully synthesized by simple solvothermal method.X-Ray Diffraction(XRD)analysis showed that the product was hexagonal CdS.Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM)analysis showed that CdS with different chromium contents were nanorods, the length of CdS nanorods was 100-350 nm,and the average diameter was 20-30 nm,which was almost independent of the quantity of chromium doped.Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy(EDS)measurements demonstrated that the synthesized product was composed of S,Cd and Cr.The Vibrating Sample Magnetometer(VSM)demonstrated that Cr-doped CdS nanorods exhibited ferromagnetism at room temperature, while non Cr-doped CdS nanorods exhibited weak ferromagnetism. The saturation magnetization Ms of Cr-doped CdS nanorods(Cr=4.17 at.%,7.31 at.%)was about 3.907 and 8.798(×10-3 emu/g)respectively,and the coercivity of Hc was about 96.21 and 137.15 Oe(1 Oe= 79.58 A/m).The room temperature ferromagnetic properties of CdS nanorods were closely related to the substitution of Cd atoms by Cr in the CdS lattice.
