Science and Technology Innovation Empowers Low-carbon Metallurgy to Solve the Shortage of Copper Concentrate
Since the beginning of 2024,there has been a shortage in the global supply of copper concentrate. The treatment charges(TC)of imported copper concentrate in China have dropped dramatically, and copper smelters in China have been forced to jointly reduce production due to losses. With the development of green and low-carbon transformation, new energy and AI industries, the demand for copper metal will increase steadily in the future. This paper suggests accelerating the development of bioleaching copper extraction technology,in-creasing the proportion of copper hydrometallurgy, reducing the growth rate of pyrometallurgy and adjusting the capacity structure of copper smelting to effectively alleviate the shortage of raw materials for copper concentrate.
