Safety Assessment of the Frame Structure of a Large Phosphoric Acid Facility in Brazil
Abnormalities occurred in the frame structure of a phosphoric acid concentration facility at a large phosphate fertilizer plant in Brazil.A safety assessment was conducted on the frame structures of the two concentration facilities,62 and 42,in the area.Through data collection,on-site investigation and analysis of design documents,the frame structure and its foundation were analyzed from both macro and micro perspectives.It was found that the facility has some problems such as cracks,deformation and corrosion of the concrete cover.The results of the assessment indicated that some corresponding measures must be taken to ensure structure safety owing to low safety redundancy in the original design and degradation of the structural material performance.According to the results of the assessment,emergency response measures and monitoring requirements were proposed.
