Objective To analyze the effects of modified Morita therapy on psychiatric symptoms and social function in elderly male patients with schizophrenia(SCH).Methods A total of 72 elderly male patients with SCH who received long-term hospitalization in Shanghai No.1 Civil Mental Health Center from January 2021 to July 2021 were selected and divided into control group and study group by random number table method,with 36 cases in each group.The control group was treated with conventional drugs,and the study group was treated with conventional drugs combined with modified Morita therapy.Both groups were treated for 6 months.The psychiatric symptoms of all patients were assessed by the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS)before enrollment and after treatment,,and their social functions were assessed by the Personal and Social Performance Scale(PSP)and the Activity of Daily Living Scale(ADL).Results After 6 months of treatment,the general psychopathological symptom score,negative symptom score,and PANSS total score in the study group were lower than those before enrollment,and lower than those of the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After 6 months of treatment,the ADL score of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.01).Compared with before enrollment,the PSP score in the study group increased significantly after 6 months of treatment,and was higher than that of the control group,and the difference were statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusion Modified Morita therapy combined with conventional drug therapy on the basis of conventional drug therapy can effectively improve the social function and psychiatric symptoms of elderly male patients with SCH,and promote the improvement of self-care ability in daily life.
