Influence of the Deepening RTA on the U.S.Asia-Pacific Value Chain
This paper uses WTO-PTA database and OECD TiVA database to build an indicator system to mea-sure the depth of regional trade agreements(RTA)and America's control over the Asia Pacific value chain, and com-prehensively examines the impact of RTA deepening on America's control over the Asia Pacific value chain. The re-suits show that the deepening of RTA has significantly enhanced America's control over the Asia Pacific value chain, and this conclusion is still valid after a series of robustness tests. In addition,RTA deepening has significant heteroge-neity in terms of content, scope, economic pairs, geographical regions, types of agreements, and innovation capabilities. The mechanism test shows that RTA deepening mainly strengthens America's control over the Asia Pacific value chain by expanding the difference in the status of the Asia Pacific value chain and reducing trade costs. This study provides a reference for China to break through the containment of the Asia Pacific value chain of the United States with RTA.The regression results based on the Chinese sample found that RTA deepening significantly strengthened the control of the United States over the value chain cooperation between China and other asia-pacific economies,"WTO+"pro-visions,tariff provisions and economic areas of the deepening of the provisions of the stronger role.
