A Research on Behaviors of Chinese Agricultural Enterprises'Export to the U.S.under Tariff Policy Changes
The frequent changes in U.S.tariff policies have posed unprecedented challenges to China's agricultural exports. This paper utilizes high-frequency firm-level trade data to examine the export behaviors and coping strategies of Chinese agricultural enterprises in response to these tariff poli-cy changes. The study reveals that during the proposed tariff hike periods, large enterprises were more capable of mitigating trade losses through expedited shipments. After the formal imposition of tariffs,Chinese agricultural exports to the U.S.decreased by an average of 15.9%.Enterprises with diversified trade channels were able to reallocate their exports to other countries at lower transition costs,signifi-cantly reducing their dependence on the U.S.market.The signing of the Phase One Trade Agreement effectively reduced trade policy uncertainty, leading to a partial recovery of China's agricultural exports to the U.S.,though not to pre-tariff levels. This paper provides a new research perspective for the de-velopment of further targeted measures to support agricultural enterprises in coping with trade shocks and promoting high-quality development of agricultural industry.
