Import Promotion Effect of WTO Technical Assistance:From the Perspective of Recipient Countries
As a key way to promote trade,the impact of WTO technical assistance in the field of trade of recipient countries has not been fully proved.Based on the import perspective of recipient countries,this paper uses the data of 139 recipient countries receiving WTO tech-nical assistance from 2009 to 2020 to explore the promotion effect of WTO technical assistance on the import trade of recipient countries.The empirical results show that WTO technical as-sistance can significantly promote the import scale of recipient countries,and this promotion effect is mainly achieved by reducing tariff barriers,improving the transparency of rules and im-proving the level of trade facilitation.In addition,heterogeneity analysis found that recipient countries with low development level and imperfect institutional quality have difficulties in giving full play to the trade promotion effect of WTO technical assistance.Further analysis shows that WTO technical assistance can promote the growth of the import scale of recipient countries by expanding the import depth,and recipient countries need to further diversify the sources of imports to improve the stability of trade and anti-risk ability.
