AIM: To observe the expression of MCP-1 and ICAM-1 in periodontal fiber in the rats with ex perimental periodontitis. METHODS: 24 SD rats were randomly divided into four groups ( n = 6). The rats with no treatment served as the controls( Group N). The second premolars of other 3 groups were ligated with silk, fed with a periodontitis recipe and inoculated with P. gingivalis. After 2 ( Group PI ) , 4 ( Group P2) and 6 weeks ( Group P3) , the rats were sacrificed and periodontal tissues were sectioned. Expression and distribution of MCP-1 or ICAM-1 were examined by histoimmunological study. RESULTS: The expression of MCP-1 and ICAM-1 in the experimental groups increased significantly compared with that in control group (P < 0. 05 ). Group P2 showed strongest expression (P<0.05) , while no significant difference of MCP-1 or ICAM-1 expression was found between group PI and P3 (PSsO.05). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that MCP-1 and ICAM-1 might be associated with the patho-genesis of periodontitis.
