Clinical study on the application of concentrated growth factor in direct pulp capping of permanent molar deep caries
AIM:The application of concentrated growth factor hemofibrin(CGF)as a pulp capping material in direct pulp capping(DPC)of permanent molars after deep caries removal and pulp piercing was investigated to determine the clinical feasibility of using CGF as a pulp capping material.METHODS:Patients who were diagnosed as permanent molar deep caries by the Department of Dentistry and Endodontics of the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University from May 2021 to December 2023 and who had undergone thorough caries removal and pulp penetration were eligible for DPC treatment.According to different direct pulp capping materials and patient wishes, they were divided into Dycal control group and CGF test group. The base material and filling material were the same in both groups except for the direct pulp capping materials.Regular reexamination was conducted 1,3,and 6 months after surgery to observe the postoperative reactions and clinical effects of the two groups.RESULTS:A total of 132 patients with affected teeth were included in the study and 8 were lost to follow-up.Dycal control group and CGF test group were 62 cases each.Patients who have tooth sensitivity before treatment showd a 58.62%and 71.92%relief of tooth sensitivity in Dycal control group and CGF test group, respectively,at the re-examination 6 months after surgery, with no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).Six months after operation,115 cases were successful and 9 cases failed. The overall success rate of the two groups was 92.74%,and the success rate in Dycal group and CGF group was 93.54%and 91.93%,respectively,with no statistical significance(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Using CGF as a pulp capping agent for DPC penetrating the pulp of permanent molars after complete caries removal can achieve the goal of preserving living pulp, reducing the rate of pulp removal and root canal treatment.
