Clinical study on the effect of oral treatment under general anesthesia in children with dental fear
AIM:To compare the clinical outcomes of systemic treatment of oral caries under general anaesthesia or protective fixation in children with dental agoraphobia in paediatric dental outpatient clinics.METHODS:Dental anxiety scores of children attending the outpatient clinic(from July 2022 to December 2022)were assessed by the Children's Awe Questionnaire, and those with scores greater than 50 were included in the total sample of this study, and were divided into a general anaesthesia group(oral treatments under general anaesthesia)and a restraint group(oral treatments under protective fixation)with 40 cases each according to the wishes of their families. The number of decayed filled and missing teeth(DMFT)and root canal treatment, the compliance rate at 3,6 and 12 months after surgery, the loss rate of filling body(including precoronation)and the incidence of caries(secondary caries and new caries)were compared between the two groups.RESULTS:The number of DMFT and root canal treatment in the general anesthesia group was higher than that in the restraint group(P<0.001),the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001),The review compliance rate of children in the general anaesthesia group was higher than that of the bound group, and the incidence of secondary caries and the rate of filling loss were lower than that of the bound group at the review at the 3th,6th,12th month after the end of treatment, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Children with dental anxiety are better suited for systematic caries treatment under general anesthesia, which offers a brief duration, favorable clinical outcomes,a comfortable diagnostic and therapeutic process, enhanced compliance with medical procedures among children, and reduced long-term caries recurrence rates.
