Emerging trends and hotspots of apical periodontitis based on bibliomertrics
AIM:This study aims to analyze the relevant research on apical periodontitis in the past 70 years,to present the current status, explore hotspots and frontiers, and provide insights into future research directions through bibliometric analysis.METHODS:Literature on apical periodontitis from 1952 to 2022 was retrieved using the Web of Science Core Collection database.Bibliometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. The main analysis contents included countries, institutions, authors, journals, cited journals, keywords, etc.RESULTS:The growth of literature in this field can be divided into two stages:1952 to 1990 and 1991 to 2022,with an overall trend of gradual increase. The United States acted as the center for collaboration among different countries/regions and also had the highest productivity and citation count.Univ Sao Paulo was the university with the highest productivity in this field, and Siqueira JF was the scholar with the highest academic influence.Journal of Endodontic and International Endodontic Journal were identified as core journals in this field.Based on keyword analysis, the research field was divided into six related clusters:1.Etiology;2.Treatment;3.Diagnosis;4.Infection;5.Pulp regeneration;6.Epidemiology."Macrophages,""oxidative stress,""pulp regeneration,"and"antibiotics"were identified as the main keywords highlighting research hotspots that deserve further attention.CONCLUSION:This study comprehensively describes the development of research in the field of apical periodontitis over the past 70 years, providing a reference for researchers and clinical practitioners.
