Design and Application of Living Plant Management System at Shanghai Botanical Garden
With the gradual construction of the National Botanical Garden network and the growing demand for biodiversity conservation,the construction of a botanical garden with the core functions of plant collection and germplasm preservation,ex-situ conserva-tion,living plant management system and sharing platform has become an urgent need.The Shanghai Botanical Garden Plant Information System(SBGPIS)is designed to take advantages of the successful experiences of botanical gardens at home and abroad,combine its own characteristics and integrate the management needs of various departments.The system mainly con-tains five specialized databases and eight sub-systems,which co-ordinate the management of living plant data of the different sections,such as field collection,introduction and conservation,scientific research,construction of specialized gardens,conser-vation base and nursery,etc.This paper provides an overview of the core structure and main functions of the system.It puts for-ward some solutions and suggestions for the problems that may be encountered in the operation,management,and maintenance of the system after its completion,with a view to provide a reference for similar work in the same sectors or related fields.
