Status and Prospectives of Exsitu Conservation of Nanmu Species in Shanghai
Introduction and conservation of exotic species are long-term,fundamental tasks for botanical gardens.Shanghai Botanical Garden has consistently prioritized introducing and conserving plants,in order to achieve notable successes at the early stages.The focus extends beyond collecting and introducing rare and endangered plants to emphasize their cultivation and practical ap-plications.Among tree species,the Nanmu is rare and endangered,a renowned precious and landscape tree.It has consistently been a focal point in species introduction at Shanghai Botanical Garden.This article revolves around the species'introduction,conservation,and applications.It briefly reviews the historical collection and introduction of rare and endangered plants at Shanghai Botanical Garden,the early introduction of Nanmu species,and recent efforts in introducing,screening,and effi-ciently cultivating resources at Shanghai Botanical Garden.It also provides a comparative analysis of the growth status of this species cultivated in the Shanghai area center at Shanghai Botanical Garden.Additionally,it offers a prospective outlook on the conservation of resources and the future applications of the tree species in greening initiatives.The aim is to enhance the aware-ness of the species and accelerate the protection,development,and application of the valuable landscape tree resources.
