Historical Overview and Developmental Prospective of the Herb Garden at the Shanghai Botanical Garden
As an important place for the conservation,research,and display of Chinese herbal medicinal plant resources,the Herb Garden at the Shanghai Botanical Garden has accomplished a series of achievements through decades of development.The construction of Herb Garden started in the 1970s,and after several transformations and expansions,it has adapted to the growing demands for representing Chinese herbal medicine and landscape design.Regarding the medicinal plant collection,the Herb Garden is committed to preserving and expanding traditional Chinese medicine culture.Through the introduction,collection and protec-tion of various medicinal plants,it provides rich resources for traditional Chinese medicine research.At the same time,the Herb Garden holds exhibitions and engages in industry exchanges to promote the popularization and dissemination of knowledge about the role of plants and fungi in promoting human health and well-being.The garden is keeping up to date by having clear zoning regulations,procedures to introduce and add to the existing collection,effective plant pest control,frequent industry exchanges,distinctive scientific publicity,in-depth promotion of traditional Chinese medicine culture,and rapid development of information technology.Looking forward to the future,we will carry out additional scientific publicity activities on traditional Chinese medicine culture,create a more natural and harmonious environment,actively explore new models of information tech-nology,and make further contributions to the sustainable development of the Chinese herbal medicine industry along with the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine culture,and creation and promotion of a biodiverse,urban friendly demonstration.
