Objective To comprehend the current status of dental caries in permanent teeth among 12-year-old children in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2021 and analyze the influencing factors,in order to provide a scientific basis for caries prevention. Methods A total of 17 755 12-year-old children were randomly selected from 12 leagues and 103 counties in 2021 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region using a multiphase random sampling principle.Oral examinations and questionnaire surveys were conducted. Results The dental caries prevalence rate among 12-year-old children in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was 32.15%,with boys dental caries prevalence rate at 28.90%and girls at 35.49%.The mean dental caries value was 0.78,with boys mean dental caries value at 0.66 and girls at 0.91.Caries rates differed significantly among children of different ethnicities:29.42%for Han nationality,37.67%for Mongol nationality and other nationalities, and the differences was statistically significant(x2=122.62,P<0.001).The dental caries prevalence rates of children in urban and suburban counties were 34.28%and 31.49%respectively,the differences was statistically significant(x2=11.42,P<0.001).Children in regions classified as economically good, medium, and poor had dental caries prevalence rates of 27.86%,35.10%,and 31.40%,respectively,the differences was statistically significant(x2=72.12,P<0.001).Binary logistic regression model analysis revealed potential associations with dental caries:female gender[(odds ratio,OR)=1.383],Mongol nationality and other nationalities(OR=1.413),areas with medium or poor economic levels(OR=1.367,1.133),suburban counties(OR=0.796),and average daily intake of sugary drinks less than once or more than once(OR=1.157,1.285).Conclusion In Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the dental caries prevalence rate among 12-year-old children's permanent teeth is below the national average, with the mean dental caries value level being moderately low.Children's oral health issues should be taken seriously and treated promptly. Moreover, intervention measures should be intensified by relevant authorities.
