Objective To examine the turbidity characteristics and their variation trend of the tap water of Guangzhou municipal water supply, and explore the influence of turbidity on pH value and oxygen consumption,so as to provide scientific basis for drinking water quality management. Methods The tap water samples of Guangzhou municipal water supply plants from 2003 to 2018 were tested, and the data of 480 monitoring samples were collated and analyzed.Means±standard deviation was used to represent the turbidity levels in tap water during different quarters and water periods.One-way ANOVA was employed to compare monitoring value levels across different quarters and water periods.Pearson correlation analysis was utilized to assess the correlation between turbidity,pH values, and oxygen consumption. Results From 2003 to 2018,the qualified rate of turbidity of the tap water was 98.54%(473/480).Turbidity levels exhibited a general decreasing trend(r=-0.632,P<0.001),while pH values showed an overall increasing trend(r=0.791,P<0.001),and the oxygen consumption showed a general downward trend(r=-0.833,P<0.001).No correlation was found between turbidity and pH values(r=-0.163,P=0.076)or oxygen consumption(r=0.173,P=0.134)in the first quarter of the tap water. However,pH values in subsequent quarters and water periods displayed a negative correlation with turbidity, while oxygen consumption in these periods showed a positive correlation with turbidity. Conclusion Turbidity levels in tap water from Guangzhou's municipal water supply generally exhibits a declining trend from 2003 to 2018.Turbidity monitoring is predictive value for pH values and oxygen consumption, providing references for monitoring drinking water.
