Analysis of epidemiologic features of hand-foot-mouth disease in Aba Prefecture of Sichuan Province from 2013 to 2022
Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of hand-foot-mouth disease(HFMD)in Aba Prefecture of Sichuan Province from 2013 to 2022,and to provide a reference for optimizing the strategies of the prevention and control of HFMD in the local area. Methods The data of clinically diagnosed cases of HFMD in Aba Prefecture from 2013 to 2022 and the throat swabs were collected, and real time fluorescent quantitative PCR was used to detect the etiologic typing.Excel 2016 software,GraphPad Prism 8.0 and SPSS 22.0 software were applied to collate and analyze the test results and perform Chi-square test. Results The incidence of HFMD in Aba Prefecture showed an overall upward trend(x2trend=1 908.32,P<0.001)from 2013 to 2022,with the highest morbidity of 82.75/100 000 in 2022.Seasonal variations were significant, with high high incidence of HFMD from April to July and from September to December. The difference in the mean annual percent morbidity of HFMD among different age groups was statistically significant(x2=1 766.55,P<0.001),with higher mean annual percent morbidity in the<3 years and 3-<6 years age groups.Diaspora and childcare children accounted for a higher proportion of cases with 54.40%and 35.87%.The difference of the morbidity of HFMD in different regions was statistically significant(x2trend=5 126.0,P<0.001),with the highest morbidity of 219.53/100 000 in Jiuzhaigou Contry. The prevalent HFMD strains in Aba Prefecture from 2013 to 2022 were mainly Coxsackie virus A16(Cox A16)type and other types of Enteroviruses. Conclusion The overall epidemic trend of HFMD in Aba Prefecture is elevated from 2013 to 2022.The peak periods of incidence are in April to July and September to December each year. The high risk population is diaspora and childcare children under the age of 6 years. The high epidemic regions are Jiuzhaigou County,Xiaojin County and Mao County. The main prevalent strains are Cox A16 type and other types of Enteroviruses.lt is suggested that health education and pathogenetic surveillance should be strengthened for people in key areas during the high incidence period of HFMD,and the vaccination rate should be increased to prevent outbreaks and epidemics of HFMD.
