Investigation and analysis of public awareness of core information on tuberculosis prevention and control in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps
Objective To understand the awareness of core information on tuberculosis(TB)prevention and control among residents over 15 years old in the region under the jurisdiction of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps(referred to as"the Corps"),and to provide a scientific theoretical basis for formulating and carrying out health publicity and education strategies in the Corps in the future.Methods From November to December 2020,eight investigation divisions were selected by multi-stage stratified random sampling method,with a total of 1 200 permanent population aged≥15 years.The survey questionnaire by national unified production was used to conduct in home face-to-face enquires and investigations,and the results were descriptively analyzed by SPSS 26.0 software.The x2 test was used to compare the awareness rates of core information on TB prevention and control among investigation respondents with different demographic characteristics.Results The overall awareness rate of core information on TB prevention and control among the public in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps was 85.83%.The awareness rates of"disease characteristics"and"whether it can be cured"were relatively low,at 74.33%and 75.42%,respectively.The awareness rate of core information on TB prevention and control was statistically significant difference in terms of age(x2=100.56,P<0.001),urban and rural areas(x2=7.22,P=0.007),occupation(x2=112.75,P<0.001),education level(x2=87.53,P<0.001),whether received publicity and education(x2=15.92,P<0.001),southern and northern Xinjiang regions(x2=13.90,P<0.001).Television(64.16%)and radio(61.83%)were still the most major way for the public to receive publicity and education.Conclusion Although the awareness rate of core information on TB prevention and control among the public in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps has reached the goal of the National TB Prevention and Control Plan in the 13th Five-Year Plan.However,the awareness rates of core information on TB prevention and control among people with lower education levels and the retired and those>65 years of age are still relatively low.It is necessary to strengthen TB prevention and control information publicity and education for such key groups.
