On-site investigation and disposition of one case of zoonotic human cutaneous anthrax epidemic
Objective Through the on-site investigation and disposition of one case of a cutaneous anthrax epidemic in Yiyang County,Luoyang City,Henan Province,the experience and deficiencies were summarized and generalized to provide a reference for the disposition of similar outbreaks in the future.Methods On September 22,2022,one case of a cutaneous anthrax epidemic occurred in Yiyang County due to the feeding and handling of dead sheep.Relevant departments of center for disease control and prevention took comprehensive prevention and control measures,including on-site investigation,epidemiological case investigation,source of infection tracking,sample collection,laboratory testing,case search and contact management,disinfection of epidemic sites,and health publicity and education,to control the epidemic and evaluate the effectiveness of epidemic response.Results A total of one cutaneous anthrax case was found in this epidemic.The laboratory PCR results showed that one mixed sample from the outside environment of the sheep shed was positive,with a cycle threshold(Ct)value of 36.30,and the test results of the other samples were all negative.The five co-exposed individuals and close contacts were discharged from medical observation after medical observation without any abnormality.Extensive publicity and education work was carried out in Liuquan Town,and terminal disinfection was carried out in the affected epidemic sites.After the recovery of this case,no subsequent cases were found among humans or animals after a maximum incubation period,and the epidemic was effectively controlled.Conclusion Through joint prevention and control,timely and comprehensive prevention and control measures against the anthrax epidemic can effectively stop the development of the epidemic.
