Against the background of global commitment to achieving the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, the olefin industry is facing arduous challenges of energy-saving and low-carbon transformation.Taking an ethylene plant in China as a case study, this paper provides three steam balance schemes for the scenario where the"three compressors"are converted from steam turbine drive to electric motor drive, compares these schemes with the traditional steam balance scheme, and analyses the energy consumption of each scheme as well as their respective advantages and disadvantages. It is found that in the ethylene plant, the conversion of steam turbine drive to electric motor drive for the"three compressors"can reduce energy consumption to a certain extent, and it is practicable to reduce carbon emissions by combining the means of green power supply. It provides a credible reference and transformation template for the olefin industry as well as similar energy-consuming industries in terms of clean energy transformation, and it is a feasible way of thinking for realizing the"dual-carbon"goals of energy conservation, emission reduction and green development.
