Historical Reconsideration on Some Ancient Counties of the Yizhou Prefecture during the Western Han Dynasty
The Yizhou Prefecture was established in the second year of Yuanfeng(109 B.C.)in the Western Han Dynasty by integrating different parts of the Ancient Dian State,Ancient Ailao State and some counties of the Yuexi, the Qianwei, the Zangke and the Jiaozhi Prefectures, when the central government began to administrate the Southwest China, which marked the beginning of the prefecture and county system in Yunnan.Based on the description about the Yizhou Prefecture in Geographical Records of The Chronicles of the Han Dynasty, together with The Textual Research on the Historical Geography of Southwest China by Mr.Fang Guoyu and some of earlier historical records and research literatures, the paper reconsiders and recognizes the 10 counties of the 24 counties of Yizhou Prefecture from a modern perspective,in which the authors believe there is still space for further discussion.
