Distribution of Glycosylated Hemoglobin in Different Ethnic Groups in Yunnan Province
Objective To investigate the distribution of glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)levels between different genders and ages of Han,Yi,Hani and Dai ethnic groups in Yunnan province. Methods A total of 16363 cases of Han nationality,950 cases of Yi na-tionality,830 cases of Hani nationality and 1044 cases of Dai nationality were collected from Yuxi city,Yunnan province. The four ethnic groups were divided into 5 groups according to age(25-39 years,40-49 years,50-59 years,60-69 years,≥70 years). The distri-bution of HbA1c in different genders and age groups of four ethnic groups were analyzed and compared. Results Among the four ethnic groups, the Yi nationality had the highest HbA1c level, followed by Hani nationality,Han nationality, and Dai nationality had the lowest HbA1c level. There were significant differences in the overall level of HbA1c(P<0.05).Pairwise comparison between groups showed significant differences except for Yi and Hani nationality(P<0.05).Except for Yi nationality, there were significant differences in HbA1c levels among different genders of Han nationality,Hani nationality and Dai nationality(P<0.05).In terms of trend, the HbA1c levels of Han males and females increased with age, while the HbA1c levels of the other three ethnic minorities all showed an inflection point. The HbA1c levels of the four ethnic groups were higher in females than in males at the age of 60-69 years. Conclusion There are differences in the overall level of HbA1c among the four ethnic groups, and the distribution trend with age is different among different genders in each ethnic group.
