Compression of the iliac veins can cause hemodynamic changes and an increased risk of deep thrombosis. There is no clear guideline on whether to actively relieve the iliac veins while treating lower extremity venous proximity, and the current accepted approach is to use the difference in iliac vein-inferior vena cava pressure gradient to guide the decision on whether or not to perform endoluminal intervention. This article provides a review of applications and research advances in the measurement of iliac vein pressure gradients.
