On the Type and Universal of Consonant Endings in the Sino-Tibetan Languages in China
From the synchronic perspective,the distribution of consonant endings is not balanced in the Sino-Tibetan languages.From the diachronic perspective,consonant ending is a phonetic phe-nomenon in earlier period.The present distribution is the result of evolution of consonant endings.Based on the data of consonant endings in 95 Sino-Tibetan Languages collected within the territory of China,this paper proposes a number of types and universals of these endings,including the combina-tion types and commonness between the consonant endings and vowel,and explores the universals of the sound change of consonant endings.
