Evolution of Tonal Value and Competing Change:Research on Qusheng Split into Yinqu and Yangqu as well as Related Changes in Jiaoliao Mandarin
Irregular splits of Qusheng tone into Yinping and Yangping tones is found in Pingdu-type dia-lects in Shandong province.This article pointed out that these dialects generally used to distinguish between Yinqu and Yangqu in history after the analysis of the tone sandhi preceding neutral-toned syllables and recon-structs the ancient tonal values of Pingdu-type dialects as Yinping*21,Yangping*55,Shangsheng*213,Yinqu*31,Yangqu*42.The situation of irregular tonal splits of Qusheng in modern Pingdu-type dialects are resulted from the competing change between*55>42>31and*31>42.
