Experimental Study on Influence Factors of the Flange Bolt Tightening Torque Coefficient
The sealing reliability of bolts is a prerequisite for safe operation of entire hydraulic system. This paper experimentally inspects the impacts of lubrication status of thread surface and screwing times on the tightening torque coefficient based on the principle of Wheatstone bridge. Our analysis reveals that compared with the cases without grease on the thread surface, the thread-surface-greased bolt experiences a greater pre-tightening force under the same installation torque, and the effect of the screwing times on the tightening torque coefficient becomes secondary. It is also uncovered that the pre-tightening forces on the bolts show better consistency and lower scatter of the tightening torque coefficients when the grease is applied on the thread surface. It is recommended to apply lubricating grease on the thread surface in the hydraulic equipment system, such as MoS2,in order to prevent bolt jamming, and meanwhile, obtain uniform pre-tightening forces on the flange bolts.
