Mode Field Analysis of High-pass Filtering Characteristics in Planar Optical Waveguides
The distribution of guided modes and transmission characteristics in planar optical waveguides is analyzed using two methods:geometrical optics and wave optics. The mode field distribution within the same waveguide is accurately calculated by exciting it with light waves at different wavelengths, employing the two-dimensional time-domain finite difference method. The results indicate that light wave energy continuously leaks out and diminishes over time;additionally, longer wavelengths result in faster energy leakage, even when the total reflection condition is satisfied in the fundamental mode. This phenomenon reflects the high-pass filter characteristics of planar optical waveguides.
