The Spillover Effect of Local Government Public Expenditure on Urban Efficiency:A Case Study of Guangxi Province
In the context of rapid urbanization, increasing local government public expenditure is a key measure to improve urban development. This paper uses the spatial econometric model and selects the panel data from 2005 to 2019 to empirically study the spillover effect of local government public expenditure on urban efficiency improvement in Guangxi. The results show that:(1)The public expenditure of Guangxi municipal governments has a spatial negative correlation with the development of urban efficiency in the spatial dimension, and the overall spatial distribution of urban efficiency shows a discrete feature, but with a strong spatial dependence;(2)The effect of public expenditure of municipal governments in Guangxi on urban efficiency in adjacent areas is more obvious;industrial structure optimization and social consumption level can significantly promote the improvement of urban efficiency, with obvious spatial spillover effect. However, the effectiveness of population size, fixed asset investment, ecological level and education level has not been fully exerted, which inhibits the improvement of urban efficiency to a certain extent. Therefore, policy recommendations are proposed to build an industrial linkage platform, increase investment in urban infrastructure construction, and deeply explore the spillover effects of local government public expenditure.
