Research on the Changes of Dongting Lake Administrative Region and the Construction of Boundary Types During the Period of the Republic of China
Intermittent flood disasters and persistent sediment stasis are the key factors for changes in the administrative district of Dongting Lake during the Republic of China period.During this period, the siltation of sediment from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River accumulated in the central, southwestern and eastern part of Dongting Lake, and the newly silted continental soil triggered disputes on interests. In order to solve the dispute, the Nanjing national government decided to set up the East Lake Administration Bureau in 1947,following the experience of setting up the Nanzhou directly affiliated authority in the late Qing Dynasty, but it failed due to the influence of Xiang and Zi waters. In terms of the construction of the border type, the boundary of the Dongting Lake administrative District of the Republic of China can be divided into four major types:river as boundary, dike as boundary, lake as boundary, and highly recognisable features as boundary, which is undoubtedly the result of the continuous interaction and adaptation between the spatial geographic basis and man-made political process of Dongting Lake area during the Republic of China period, and also an important symbol of the"geographic characteristics"of Dongting Lake area.
