On Normative Dictionaries and Language Norms:From the Inclusion of the Surname Usage of Polyphonic Word"宁 Ning"
The inclusion of polyphonic surname usage in dictionaries is always of great concern to the readers and one of the difficulties in the compilation and revision of the dictionaries."宁Ning"is a common modern surname.As a polyphonic character,it has two different pronunciations of níng and nìng,and it also has a complicated relationship with the surname character"甯nìng".At present,there are differences in the inclusion of"宁níng""宁nìng"and"甯nìng"in common dictionaries and special surnames dictionaries.Some dictionaries have also adjusted the inclusion of"宁ning"as a surname in their before and after versions.This article summarizes and compares the inclusion of"宁níng""宁nìng"and"甯nìng"in common dictionaries,and analyzes the differences in the inclusion of"寧ning""甯ning"and"宁ning"in terms of their historical origins,relevant language norms and practical applications.The article explains how modern Chinese normative dictionaries implement language norms and thus supplement the norms.
