This article attempts to provide a thorough survey of the relative clauses in Hmu(Xinzhai variety),from the perspectives of patterns,noun phrase accessibility and the syntactic characteristics.Hmu shows three positions the relative clause can be located with respect to the head noun:pre-nominal,post-nominal,and head-internal.Relative constructions with these three different positionings can be further distinguished by their syntactic structural features and relativization strategies.This paper also discusses the pragmatic functions of the three relative construcitons,and relates them to their syntactic distribution.
