This paper collects 16 dual-syllable combinations of"shou(手)"and upper limb body parts, which can be categorized into three kinds of structures:4 parallel structures,11 attributive structures, and 1 overlapping structure. All attributive structures follow the"whole+part"pattern. This paper comprehensively sorts out the usage of these combinations, elucidates their meanings, explores the rationale for word formation, outlines the trajectory of semantic extension, and summarizes 9 common extension patterns. This endeavor aims to further unveil the patterns governing the evolution of word meanings and the underlying cognitive mechanisms.Among these, adjacent extension emerges as the most prevalent mode, with the evolution of meanings predominantly centered around the concepts of"function"and"location".
