The word"Pulü(普律)"in old Beijing dialect originated from Mongolian"buri"(which means'all')in the Yuan Dynasty.In Yuan-Chao-Mi-Shi,"buri"is transliterated as"bu li".From the Yuan Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty and even the early Republic of China,the transliterated word"buli"went on two developmental paths with its spoken and written forms.In Manchu-Mongolian-Chinese trilingual materials,which reflects more colloquial spoken features,the writing form of the target word is"Puli(普里)"and"Puli(普历)".In the textbooks of Beijing dialect and novels published in the Qing Dynasty,the reduplication form of the target word is"Pulipur(普里/哩普儿)".In textbooks of Chinese published in North Korean,"Buli(哺哩/哺理)"and the reduplication form"Pulipuli(哺/铺哩哺哩)"can be observed.Finally,in the formal official document,the word is written as"Puli(普 例)"and"Pulü(普 律)".To sum up,this word is the result of the contact between Mongolian and Chinese in the Yuan Dynasty,having gone through the development process that spans from Haner Yanyu in the Yuan Dynasty to Bannerman's Chinese and Beijing dialect in the Qing Dynasty.
