Comparison of Ultrasonic Emulsification and Small-Incision Extracapsular Extraction in the Treatment of Cataracts
Objective To analyze the effect of phacoemulsification and small incision extracapsular extraction on cataract. Methods The data of 189 cataract patients(189 eyes)who received treatment in Shangqiu Eye Hospital from January 2018 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.Patients were divided into group A(phacoemulsification surgery,n=93)and group B(extracapsular resection with small incision,n=96)according to the difference in surgical methods. The data of preoperative(T1),7d postoperative(T2),1 month postoperative(T3),and 3 months postoperative(T4)were selected to be analysed, and the treatment effects of the two groups of patients were compared. The visual acuity at different time points, the number of corneal endothelial cells, the thickness of macular area, the incidence of macular edema at T4 and the value of surgical corneal astigmatism were compared between the two groups at different time points. The complications within 3 months after operation were compared between the two groups. Results At T1,T3 and T4 time points, there were no statistical significances in the data of naked eye visual acuity and best corrected visual acuity between 2 groups(P>0.05).At T2 time point, the level of naked eye visual acuity and best corrected visual acuity in group B were better than those in group A,with significant differences(P<0.05).At T1 time, there was no significant difference in the number of corneal endothelial cells between the two groups(P>0.05).At T2,T3 and T4 time points, the number of corneal endothelial cells in group B was higher than that in group A,with significant differences(P<0.05).At T1 and T4 time points, there were no statistical differences in the macular area thickness between the two groups and the incidence of macular edema at T4 between the two groups(P>0.05).At T2 and T3 time points, the macular area thickness in group B were lower than those in group A,with significant differences(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in surgical corneal astigmatism between 2 groups at different time points(P>0.05).The incidence of complications 3 months after operation in group B was lower than that in group A,with significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion Both phacoemulsification and small incision extracapsular extraction are effective surgical methods for cataract patients.Compared between the two methods, small incision extracapsular extraction is more beneficial to the short-term postoperative recovery and the reduction of perioperative complications.
